Edmond Dantes, a seafarer, has been betrayed by his friend and unjustly sent to an island prison. While in prison, he is consumed with thoughts of revenge and violence. He meets a priest who tells him that he should do good, and not seek revenge -- leaving vengeance to God. Edmond manages to escape, and with a map supplied by the late priest, locates a massive fortune. With it, he sets himself up as the Count of Monte Christo so that he can have the social standing necessary to exact his revenge. Inside Edmond, however, is the challenge of the priest to leave vengeance to God. Which road will he take?
