After nearly 20 years this beautiful film was finally brought to DVD. Set in 1947, Mrs. Watts is an elderly woman living with her hen-pecked son, Ludie, and his domineering wife Jessie-Mae. After a life on the farm, Mrs. Watts' cramped existence in a two-room home in suburban Houston has become opressive. Longing for freedom and familiarity, she runs away and boards a bus headed for Bountiful, Texas -- her girlhood home. Geraldine Page won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her moving portrayal of Mrs. Watts, a woman so desperately longing for her true home that she is willing to risk everything to get there.
